Stop Enforcing the Finger-Tip Length Rule for Shorts at UTD's UREC

UTD's recent decision to strictly enforce a finger-tip length restriction on athletic gymwear is unreasonable, subjective, and unfairly targeted towards female athletes. This "finger-tip" rule is clearly arbitrary as everyone's legs/arms/torsoes/fingertip lengths are different, thus allowing for some students to be unfairly kicked out of the gym for their body-type rather than the shorts they are wearing. Precedent has shown that athletic shorts have been fine to workout in the past, yet this abrupt change of attitude by UREC demonstrates a decision by UREC management with little regard for UTD students' opinions. This rule, if strictly enforced, will isolate a very large portion of the female (and male) student body from feeling comfortable and accepted in the gym environment. What this petition aims to do is to limit the enforcement of this rule to a much more reasonable level to ensure that our student body is able to workout in the same comfortable, proper, athletic wear--including athletic shorts--as is the case in every, other gym.
