Boycott the Cortland Standard

A local couple, offering maintenance services to the Cortland Standard, were taken by the Cortland Standard's President, Kevin Howe, downstairs to walk through the printing press room to get to a maintenance room. As they entered the printing press room, they were astonished to see posters of naked and nearly naked women in classic "pin-up" fashion posted all over the walls. There were many posters of this kind. Appauled, they promptly left and discontinued offering their services to the Cortland Standard.

As the source for news to the Cortland community, we expect more than blatant objectification of women and the subjecation of men, married and/or not to such "in-your-face" harassment. Displaying sexually provacative materials in the workplace is sexual harassment whether the viewer is male or female and the Cortland Standard is in CLEAR violation.

As a family oriented community, we must band together against these violations. We must demand that the newspaper we support with our own hard-earned money is worthy of our support.

If you are willing to forego an easy and convenient source of local news and advertising to support a greater cause, please encourage your community by signing on.

*This will be sent to the Cortland Standard's President, Kevin Howe, upon the 750th signature. The petition will continue to the next 750, etc, until the appropriate response is made by the Cortland Standard.

**The Petition Site will not sell nor use your personal information. Uncheck the update boxes when you sign and you won't hear from the Petition Site again (you will receive an confirmation email).
The Cortland area community does not want to support a newspaper that is guilty of sexual harassment and demeans half of the world's population.
Therefore, we promise to discontinue purchasing the Cortland Standard, cancel subscriptions held with the Cortland Standard and to forsake all advertising within the Cortland Standard until all of the degrading, immoral  and objectifying posters of women are removed from the Cortland Standard workplace and a public apology is made to: 1st - the women and men who work for the Cortland Standard & 2nd - the members of the Cortland area community.
