Don't Penalize Military Family Life Counselors Affected By Hurricane Dorian

When our bases and schools are closed due to "acts of god," we should not be forced to use the already minuscule amount of Paid-Time-Off (PTO) that we accrue to make up for hours that work is officially unavailable. While MFLCs and our families are under intense stress related to Dorian's approach and its probable effects, Magellan adds insult to injury by insisting that we use PTO for any time over eight hours. Most of us will lose at least 16 hours of PTO!

We are highly-qualified professionals who play a pivotal role in supporting our service members and their families. We consistently make our services available at the convenience of the clients whom we serve. Unfortunately, Magellan Health consistently fails to offer benefits that are commensurate with our commitment and the quality of our services. Being that this is an illegal unilateral change from last year's policy that gave us the ability to flex as many hours as necessary, we demand that Magellan bargain over this punitive imposed changed. Prior to bargaining we ask that Magellan take the action to fairly compensate us for the hours during which our bases and schools are closed due to Hurricane Dorian. We know that our service members, their families, and other stakeholders understand our value- WE IMPLORE MAGELLAN TO DO THE SAME.
