SAY NO TO ANOTHER 7-ELEVEN & DRIVE-THRU CAR WASH IN SUNLAND-TUJUNGA!

As many of you may not know, 7-Eleven is trying to open yet again another one of their stores in S-T. Their proposed location is on the corner of Apperson & Foothill at the address of 7660 Foothill Blvd. in Tujunga. This address is located on the corner adjacent to Roe-Zee Market, and diagonally across from the Shell gas station. This may be of concern to our residents, as not only is traffic a MAJOR problem at this intersection, but the last thing we need in S-T is yet ANOTHER vendor of liquor.

I personally witness an average of 5 accidents per year at this very intersection, not to mention constantly see pedestrians struggling to cross the street safely. It is a blind intersection if you’re trying to make a right onto Foothill from either side of Apperson; Apperson crosses Foothill diagonally. This intersection is typically blocked through many green as well as RED lights between the hours of 7:00am and 8:45am, as people are traveling East on Foothill Blvd. to reach the 210 Lowell freeway entrance (YES, it’s backed up that far during those hours).

Aside from worrying about more traffic and MORE liquor on our boulevard, we also have to keep in mind that Verdugo Hills High School is only two blocks away from this location. Our students will be crossing this very intersection in search of Slushees, hot dogs, pizza slices and whatever else they might find more conveniently available at 7-Eleven than at the busy Vons with the very long lines. If pedestrian safety is already a major concern, can you imagine your own kids walking through this very intersection after school? Crossing Foothill Blvd., where at those hours everyone is speeding past yellow lights and cutting corners in order to get home faster?

Aside from all of the negatives of having a FOURTH 7-Eleven in or around the S-T and Shadow Hills area, let’s not forget the loud, 24 – hour drive-thru car wash that they are proposing as well. The car wash will be located on the same lot, along the heavily occupied subsidized housing building, and also alongside the resident homes on the adjacent Betty Lou Lane. Might I add 7 –Eleven would be the new neighbors to the Jehova’s Witness Kingdom Hall located behind this address.

At the last STNC meeting that was held on Monday March 21st, the developer canceled and rescheduled -- this is our chance to voice our concerns!

STNC LAND USE COMMITTEE MEETING

April 4th, 2016 at 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Elks Lodge

10137 Commerce Avenue,

Tujunga 91042

******* PLENTIFUL PRIVATE PARKING IN REAR, ENTRANCE ALSO ACCESSED FROM REAR OF BUILDING ******

Very few people showed up on March 21st, and I want to make sure I can make as many people as aware as possible because under 20 people attended. The few that did were against it, and my concern is that many residents are not even aware.

Please, PLEASE be present at this next meeting, or at the very least sign the petition I created if you are AGAINST the 7-Eleven & drive-thru car wash. Thank you!
