🐾DOG PARK IMPROVEMENTS🐾

The following improvements will bring tremendous benefits to the dog-owner community in and around Enumclaw! 🐕💖

💩 PROBLEM 1: Unpleasant Odors Near Seating Area

Strong odors from uncovered trash bins are making the sole bench uncomfortable for visitors trying to relax with their dogs, especially in the Summer.

✅ SOLUTION:

Relocate the trash can away from the bench to the shaded side of the park and install a dispenser for dog waste bags next to it.

• Improved air quality and visitor comfort
• Makes the sitting area more inviting for visitors
• Encourages proper waste disposal among patrons

🪑 PROBLEM 2: Insufficient & Unshaded Seating Capacity

Currently, only one bench exists that accommodates only 2–3 people, despite the park frequently hosting almost a dozen or more visitors of varying ages and needs.

✅ SOLUTION:

Install at least one additional bench on each of the small and big dog park sides. Ideally, place the big-dog bench under the tree across from the existing seating where visitors naturally gather (currently using lawn chairs that are in a deteriorating condition). Additionally, investing in a shade structure over the central bench area and planting a few trees inside the small-dog area so that there will be more shade for future visitors would be terrific investments.

• Accommodates larger crowds during peak hours
• Provides comfort for elderly owners and those needing frequent breaks
• Shade protection extends usability during hot days

🥵💦 PROBLEM 3: No On-Site Water Source

Visitors currently rely solely on water brought from home, which quickly runs out given multiple dogs share the same drinking bowls. 

✅ SOLUTION:

Install dedicated water spigots/faucets on both the big and small dog sides of the park.

🏆 BENEFITS:

• Ensures continuous hydration for all dogs, especially during warm weather
• Reduces burden on pet owners to carry water
• Supports responsible pet ownership and animal welfare

📥 PROBLEM 4: No Storage for Shared Toys or Lost & Found

There is currently no designated space for communal toys or lost-and-found items, leading to disappearing items, misplaced belongings, and clutter.

✅ SOLUTION:

Install 2 storage bins/crates mounted on or beside a bench for shared toys and lost-and-found items.

• Keeps park area tidy and organized
• Encourages community sharing of enrichment items
• Helps reunite lost items with their owners

🚧 PROBLEM 5: No Direct Access Between Dog & Children Areas

There is currently no direct pathway connecting the children's area to the small and big dog areas. Visitors must walk a long distance around the fence to reach the other side, and in an emergency, some resort to jumping the fence to reach a child or dog attended by another parent or guardian.

✅ SOLUTION:
Add a gate at the intersection where the children's area, small dog area, and big dog area meet.

• Improves accessibility and provides a secondary exit in emergency situations
• Encourages responsible parenting — for both human and fur-children
• Reduces unnecessary detours, making the park easier to navigate

🏃💨 PROBLEM 6: Lack of Public Restroom Facilities

Many visitors spend extended time at the park or travel significant distances to reach it. Human restroom access is essential for comfort and dignity.

✅ SOLUTION:

Install portable restroom facilities accessible to both dog park and adjacent children's park visitors.

🏆 BENEFITS:

• Improves accessibility for visitors, especially families with young children and anyone with special needs.
• Makes longer visits more comfortable and practical.
• Meets basic hygiene standards expected at public recreational spaces, especially when potty clean up gets messy.
