I need your help getting justice for 44 West Highland white terriers who were found crammed into a utility trailer in Marysville, Washington.
On August 31, 2026, Marysville police pulled these dogs out of makeshift partitions and stacked kennels behind a house. Puppies were stuffed into a plastic storage tub. The dogs were matted, soiled, and in medical distress. One young female came down with suspected parvovirus and nearly died. These were not pets. They were breeding stock, kept in conditions no living creature should endure.
On September 17, 2026, Marysville police submitted 43 counts of second-degree animal cruelty and one count of illegal dog breeding against the person responsible. The dogs are now recovering at the Everett Animal Shelter, and their quarantine is expected to lift on September 21, 2026. But recovering from parvovirus and matted, infected fur is only the beginning. These Westies need the person who did this to face real consequences, and they need a guarantee that no one seizes them back into another breeding operation.
I am calling on Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Jason Cummings to file and pursue every one of the 43 recommended animal cruelty charges to the fullest extent of Washington law, and to seek a court order permanently banning this individual from owning, breeding, or living with animals again. Second-degree animal cruelty charges are too often reduced or dropped in plea deals. These 44 dogs, and the community that rescued them, deserve better than a slap on the wrist.
