Denver is named after a BIA Chief who oversaw part of the genocide of Native Americans - Rename Denver

  • destinatario: Residents of Denver, CO, Denver, CO

Denver is named after James Denver, who was Governor of Kansas before becoming the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, where he oversaw at least four Native American Massacres and failed to speak out about the Genocide Policies of the US Government. We should not maintain a city giving homage to this. I propose we change the name of the City and County of Denver to Yuki, Colorado.

The Yuki was a Native American Tribe that occupied the rich mountains in Northern California. Denver was Commissioner at the time of the tribe's basic extermination and had full opportunity to stop one of the worst genocides of American History, but opted to turn a blind eye and allow nearly all of this people to be hunted down and exterminated. He chose to not act when the local town was offering $5 per head of Native American's killed.

Yuki would be a fitting renaming of the city, to remember the loss of a people under the willfully ignorant eye of James Denver.
