Johns Hopkins University -- Stop Using Live Pigs in Your Teaching Labs

  • al: Dr. Theresa Waldspurger
  • destinatario: Dr. Paul B. Rothman, Dean of the Medical Faculty, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD

Join 120 Maryland physicians, members of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, who are protesting Johns Hopkins University's use of live pigs in student teaching labs. Johns Hopkins is one of only four remaining medical schools still using animals in its labs. The pigs used at Johns Hopkins are killed after students practice medical procedures on them. These physicians agree that there are other teaching methods that can be used in labs, including computer simulations and human-like mannequins. One University of Maryland surgeon, Dr. Pradip Sahdev, likened the use of pigs in Johns Hopkins' labs to "sanctioned animal abuse." Please sign this petition to request that this prestigious university join the majority of U.S. medical schools in eradicating the use of live animals in teaching labs. Thank you.
