Save the bass: Demand the Michigan DNR stop catering to special interest groups

Lake St. Clair is the gem of Michigan. 1/3 of the fish in the entire state are captured sustainably on this unique lake. This approach provides endless hours of communion with nature and billions of dollars in economic opportunities.

One small special interest group has petitioned the DNR for years to open up the fishing season three weeks earlier to tournaments- which historically have about a 35% mortality rate. They will violently remove fish from their nests during a critical time, leaving eggs vulnerable to predators such as gobies and perch. When the fish will finally be released (if they survive) it will be far from their nests.

Please protect the fish! Current regulations work. The drastic changes to this lake will damage the fish populations!

Please don't make a regulation that will allow special interest groups to remove bass from their nests and dump them elsewhere during three weeks of their four week spawning period!

Protect the fishery: the Department of Natural Resources should make wise changes if they have to make them at all. Don't exempt those that can do the most damage from the rules! Be wise stewards of our environment!
