Petition to Remove Suppressors From the National Firearms Act
We the people of the United States of America would like to ask congress to remove firearms suppressors off of the National Firearms Act (NFA). Suppressors play a big part in hearing protection for the user of the firearm. Despite what Hollywood and video games have done, they do not make the firearm completely quiet, however do significantly reduce noise to manageable levels. They go from an average of 160dB per shot down to around 130dB per shot according to tests done by SilencerCo.
The reasons for the use of a suppressor ranges from hunting to protecting children's hearing when shooting for the first time. When hunting, the use of suppressors cuts down on noise pollution in the surrounding areas. During a father son first shoot experience, the child would be less likely to have hearing damage or flinch from the noise of the shot. Along with these, there is also a significant plus to ranges that are near houses or residential areas, the suppressors cut down on noise pollution making shooting a less bothersome past time.
There are several countries with strict gun control that sell suppressors like any other firearms accessory, New Zealand is a big example of this. It is considered a common courtesy to use a suppressor and reduce noise pollution there. By removing the $200 tax imposed on suppressors and allowing people to buy them like any other accessory without regulation, you will have more sales and jobs created from the production required to meet the demand by the population.
