Urge Congress to Protect Horses From Slaughter

Every year, more than 130,000 American horses, many formerly exploited by the racing industry, are crammed into trailers and trucked to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico—and last year, following a five-year ban, the door was opened once again for them to be slaughtered here in the United States. After a long and frightening journey, these horses are shot with a rifle or a captive-bolt gun, are hoisted by one leg into the air, and have their throats slit, sometimes while they are still conscious, so that their flesh can be sold to other countries for human consumption.
