Stop Lion Farming in the Middle East

African lions destined for lives as "trophy pets" and status symbols, are being captured and shipped out of the horn of Africa into the Middle East, -bound for private collections in Saudi Arabia, Quatar. They are constantly bred and the cubs are sold almost immediately in Yemen.

The wildlife trade on coastal road along Yemen's west coast  has been called a "wildlife superhighway" because of the easy access it offers to the border with Saudi Arabia. We ask CITES to investigate and suspend all wildlife trade permits out of Somalia and into Yemen.

In the 1960s, it was estimated that there were 200,000 lions on the African continent. Sadly, only 20,000 are left today. There is every reason to list them as an endangered species and put a ban on this international trade immeditately.
