Build Awareness of the Problems of Asian Carp in the Great Lakes

The bighead and silver carp eat plankton and grow to large sizes. They are an invasive, unwelcome species to the Great Lakes. Fisheries biologists are concerned they will out-compete native species for food and habitat. They can potentially dismantle and destroy the delicate ecosystem throughout the Great Lakes. With enough awareness, organizations and businesses that assist and interact with Great Lakes fishing, either with equipment or fishing trips, can be aware of the problem and help to save the Great Lakes' ecosystem. Sign this petition to save our Great Lakes.
We the undersigned care about our Great Lakes and the wildlife it supports. But, there are threats looming to it. Asian Carp, both bighead and silver, are a dangerous threat to our ecosystem in the Great Lakes. They can deplete all the resources that are needed for our native fish to survive, as well as many other living things in our lakes. They have even been known to jump out of the water and cause physical harm to fishermen or boaters.
Please inform the fishermen you interact with about these fish, and remind them not to throw them back. Make sure they know what the carp look like. A poster which helps identify these carp is attached for your convenience. Please print this off and put it in a visible location. If fishermen know what to look out for, small steps can be taken. They can serve as a sort of a group of guards for our Great Lakes, while still enjoying the wonderful sport of fishing.
We need to rid of these fish as soon as possible, so as to protect the wildlife and environment throughout the region. We care about our Great Lakes. We hope you do, too.
Thank you for your time.
