Save the Orangutans

We are a Year 7 GATE class at Immanuel College doing our best to make a difference to the future of orangutans. We are petitioning against the clearance of land in both Malaysia and Indonesia. This land is being cleared to make way for plantations of palm oil. We believe that most people are unaware of this and also the effect palm oil has on their own health. We would like to let the Indonesian and Malaysian governments know that as young students we are not supportive of this and that we also have support of the wider community with our plight. Our teacher Ms Booker has guided us through investigations where we have discovered some very distrurbing things as well as some fascinating things about the orangutan species. Although we are a small group Ms Booker encourages and supports us to make a difference and so that is what we are doing. Our class is creating a blog, writing letters to the Presidents of Indonesia and Malaysia, writing to KFC and McDonalds and also informing our student body. Already we have achieved something as the sale of Smiths Crisps has decreased dramatically and the sale of Red Rock chips has increased within our canteen. This is brilliant as Red Rock does not use Palm oil but Smiths do. This is a small description of what we are doing but I hope you have enjoyed it and thankyou for your support.
