China is the leading country for overfishing and they catch an estimated amount of 4 million tons of "trash fish", fishes that have little to none market value, each year. That number is equivalent to Japan's annual figure of fishing.
In 2014, it is estimated that a total of 7.2 million tons of domestically caught "trash fish" were turned into feed for farmed fish. That means those fish will never have an opportunity to breed and, in so doing, replenish fish stocks. If the trash are not breeding enough in the ocean, then bigger fish like tuna will have less sources of food to eat from which could reduce their population. And the tuna's population is already dwindling from overfishing them also. According to the NPR(national public radio), the pacific bluefin tuna's population has dropped 2.6 percent which may not sound like alot but these drops in percent can double every year if we do not take action.
To begin with, we should not put all the blame on China for overfishing. Japan, U.S., Indonesia, Taipei, South Korea, and more, overfish but not to the scale of China's. As a solution, China and other countries that overfish, should implement more fish farms and the UN should send educated marine biologists or successful fish farmers to help set up and guide the farms to a point where it could be a sustainable way of providing food.
