Stop CUSD from starting school during Summer Break!!

We, as parents of children who attend or have attended the schools in the Capo Unified School District, petition the School Board and Administration to reinstate the prior school start date to after Labor Day for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 school years. This decision was made to the peripheral benefit of a narrow group of secondary education students and for better “alignment” with local colleges and post-secondary education, regardless of the impact on the wide body of students for grades K-9 and their educational benefits. This decision was made without consultation to or extensive feedback from parents, who are increasing uncomfortable with changing a school schedule that has been in place for decades, fits our communities culture and has not had a measurable negative impact on college readiness or testing for secondary students. We petition to CUSD to re-hear this item and ensure that all affected students and parents are given the opportunity to have their voices heard on this very important decision and further explore other alternatives to starting the school year prior to Labor Day.
