Reducing AI harm to the Arctic (OpenAI/ChatGPT).

    1. Invisible energy consumption
Every time someone asks a question to ChatGPT or generates a picture through AI, thousands of powerful graphics cards start working in huge data centers (in the USA, Europe, Asia). They consume dozens of times more electricity than a regular Google search. It takes as much energy to train just one large neural network as it would take to power hundreds of residential buildings for an entire year.
    2. Carbon footprint and greenhouse effect
Most of this energy is still coming from dirty sources, such as burning coal and gas. This releases thousands of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These gases create a "greenhouse" effect around the Earth. The Arctic is the most sensitive area on the planet, and it is warming four times faster than the rest of the world.3. Destruction of the polar bear's home
The polar bear is not just a beautiful animal, but a predator whose life is 100% dependent on sea ice.
Hunting: Polar bears only hunt seals from the ice. When the ice melts prematurely due to global warming, the bears are left on land. There is nothing for them to eat.
Hunger: Scientists have observed that the reduction in ice coverage causes the bears to become malnourished, making it difficult for the females to nurse their cubs, leading to a decline in the bear population.
Conflicts: Hungry bears go to people, to villages, which often ends in the death of animals.
    4. Wastage of clean water
AI data centers heat up so much that they need millions of liters of fresh water to cool them. This water is taken from nature, heated and actually removed from the ecosystem, which also indirectly hits the ecology of the planet.
    Our demand:
We are not against technology, but we are against progress at the cost of species extinction. OpenAI should stop hiding the real scale of the harm.We demand full transparency: how much carbon dioxide is being emitted for the sake of ChatGPT, and what specific steps the company will take to stop the Arctic from warming. The life of a polar bear is more important than a quick response from a neural network.
