ENCLOSED DOG PARK IN STAFFORD

A play area would be a healthy and safe environment for dogs and their owners to socialise and train puppies in recall etc. This would ensure better behaved dogs in public and reassure people who have phobias and misunderstanding of dog behaviour.
There is plenty of spare land in Stafford (Wildwood Park for one) and all the council would have to provide is a good fence and some waste bins.
Most dog owners agree that walking and interaction with their pets is a human leisure activity, which at present is not catered for in the same way as walking, play, sports and fitness facilities.
Stafford Borough has recently spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on the excellent park on Wildwood. This facility is only used at weekends during the winter months and out of school hours during the summer months, which means this park is unused for most of the time.
A dog park would cost a tiny fraction the council spent on Wildwood Park but has the potential of year round usage.
These facilities are becoming ever popular in the UK and Stafford could be seen as a national forerunner in this idea.
The more supporters, the better the chance to successfully lobby the council.
