NO TUITION FEE INCREASE AT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY

Dear Concordia Students,

At the forthcoming meeting of the board of Governors of Concordia, scheduled for Thursday, June 18th at 7:30am, there will be a motion to increase tuition fees for certain international graduate and undergraduate students. We believe that this unwarranted increase in tuition fees is just the start of more to come. As a matter a fact, this increase is part of a systematic increase in tuition fees for the past few years not only at Concordia but also at universities and CEGEPs across Quebec. For the time being, the most affected group of students will be John Molson School of Business (JMSB) graduates and undergraduates as well as Engineering, Arts and Science undergraduates. But this is not the first tuition increase to take place recently: Just this summer, some international students' (e.g. Engineering) tuition fees were also raised unexpectedly. The GSA and the CSU both strongly oppose any increase in tuition as it will increase the financial burden on students who are already struggling during these tough economic times.

GSA and CSU stand firm on the demand of "NO TUITION FEE INCREASE."

We believe that everyone regardless of their race, gender, nationality and economic situation should be able to access education.

If you share our concern, then please support the cause and sign this on-line petition. You can also join the e-mail group at gsaconcordia@listsriseup.net by sending an e-mail request. You will then be getting regular updates on this issue.

Please also come and show solidarity with the GSA and the CSU in a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, June 18th at 7:00am, at GSA House, 2030 Mackay Street (breakfast at 6:45am). At 7:00am SHARP we will head out to peacefully let our voice be heard about this issue.

PETITION

We the undersigned support the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and the Concordia Student Union (CSU) on its stand against the tuition fee increase. I demand that Concordia management not raise the tuition fees and I denounce any such increase as obstructive to educational accessibility and academic performance.
