The century in which respect for all living beings should be a dominant and prominent trait, is in fact characterized in today's Romania by an unimaginable cruelty.
For two decades, the management of stray dogs was done poorly, barbaric and in a way that doesn't dignify the human species. All this didn't lead to any result except hundreds of thousands of dogs killed and tens of millions of Euros spent! Stray dogs of Romania have developed an entire industry.
Romania, as a civilized country, member of the EU, must implement those measures to control the over populations of stray animals which have been proven efficient in all the civilized world : capture/sterilize/return....it appears that very many mayors in Romania have decided to KILL as many stray dogs as possible....
Romanian Parliament will meet on Monday, 9th september, for a final vote in a plenary session... IT IS OBVIOUS by now that local authorities (town halls) decided TO KILL AS MANY animals as they possible can...and we all know how "euthanasia " is done in Romania, and we all know that MOST public shelters are in fact DEATH CAMPS for the animals... Please sign and share this petition....these poor animals need us more than ever.
We don't want Romania to be known as the "butcher of Europe"anymore and we don't want the blood on our hands. On September 25, 2013, the Romanian Constitutional Court decided that the law allowing euthanasia of dogs that are retrieved from the streets and not adopted within 14 days IS constitutional. In less than half an hour, the Romanian president, Traian Basescu, had it already signed and promulgated.
Europe, please help our stray dogs! We did what we could but it wasn't enough. We don't t know what else to do to abolish this law and adopt a better, more humane and more efficient law instead.
