Our aquatic Locker Rooms, for boys and girls, at Huntington Beach High School are revolting! The floors are not angled down towards a drain like in other locker rooms in the school so water just sits on the floor all day. The showers and bathrooms are never cleaned, most of the showers are broken anyway. This past year we have found many cockroaches and other bugs in our locker room that are just absolutely horrific, but nothing is done to help the problem. We never have enough lockers for the whole team, and there are over 10 lockers that are stuck and unusable! The lockers are never cleaned so gunk, food, and other items are left over weekends and the summer, creating horrible smells and stains. We have had many thefts in this locker room because people not in aquatics can just walk in whenever they want to. When we spoke to the school about it, they did nothing to stop the problem. One of our girls lockers was even cut open by non-aquatics people! There are many problems with this locker room, and the school will not do anything about it. This locker room sickening and is definitely a health hazard to all aquatic student-athletes. I believe that this locker room needs a complete remodel, with new lockers, an angled floor, new shower heads, and patched up holes in the wall. I also believe that this locker room needs to be better protected from theft and needs to be cleaned regularly. I do not think it is fair that other sports locker rooms, including football and pe, have these amazing, well-designed locker rooms and the aquatic ones are not even cleaned on a regular basis.
