Tell GOP Rep. Sexual Assault IS a Serious Problem!

Rep. Mac Thornberry, the vice-chair of the House Armed Services Committee, thinks that there isn't any evidence of a major sexual assault problem at Lackland Airforce Base.

He believes this despite the fact that one quarter of instructors have either been charged or are being investigated for sexual assault crimes, resulting in 31 or more victims.

Rep. Thornberry says he is "putting his faith in the military" to deal with the issue because there is "no evidence of a widespread problem".

Led by Rep. Jackie Speier, 78 Congress members are asking the House Armed Services Committee to contribute to the investigation being done by the Air Force. But Thornberry's comments demonstrate that the committee will most likely not do this, but will be content with what the Air Force discovers.

Tell Rep. Mac Thornberry that sexual assault IS a serious problem and that this needs to be thoroughly investigated!

I am writing to you today because of a comment you made concerning the sexual abuse problem at Lackland Airforce Base, where one quarter of instructors are being investigated or have been charged, and where this is already 31 known victims.

You said that you don't see any "evidence of a widespread problem" and that you are "putting your faith in the military" to solve this.

As the vice-chair of the House Armed Services Committee, you have a duty to help contribute to the investigation being done by the Air Force.

Sexual assault IS a serious problem, it's a major problem, and something needs to be done about it.
