We call on Bournemouth University to declare a climate emergency

We the undersigned petition Bournemouth University (BU) to acknowledge the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s Special Report on Global Warming (October 2018).

We note that Bristol University, amongst many other organisations and governments, has declared a Climate Emergency. We urge BU to recognise the seriousness of the situation by planning for and commiting the necessary resources to further dramatically reduce carbon emissions and waste and take a leading role in research and education in tackling the crisis.

We urge the university to declare a Climate Emergency, supported by specific plans of action to make BU carbon neutral by 2030. We call on the university to work with students, staff, trade unions, academic experts and other stakeholders, as well as local and national government to prepare detailed plans to transition to being a carbon neutral university and to report back to petitioners within six months with specific proposals.
