Cameroon, Stop Harassing the LGBT Community!

Cameroon punishes citizens more harshly for same-sex relations than any other country on Earth. 28 people have been prosecuted since 2010, with most cases involving torture, no legal rights, and discrimination.

Cameroon's penal code sets the punishment for same-sex conduct to up to five years in prison. The policy is supposed to exist for same-sex conduct in public, but no one charged with this has done anything inappropriate in public. Most charges are brought on with no evidence, and many people are put in jail just because of rumors that they are LGBT. Because there is no evidence or witness information, cases are based off of confessions, usually forced through torture.

Cameroon needs to remove all criminal charges from homosexuality, drop all current cases, and uphold human rights for all. Please tell Cameroon to stop harassing the LGBT community!

Dear Cameroon Government,

Cameroon is considered to be the worst country in the world for punishing same-sex conduct. People are arrested just on the basis of rumors, and are often forced into confessions through torture. Many people are in jail simply because they are suspected to be LGBT.

It is time for Cameroon to uphold their human rights commitments, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, decriminalize homosexuality, and drop all current cases.

Please stop harassing the LGBT community. Thank you for your time.
