All Schools in Tornado-Prone Areas Need Reinforced Shelters!

The devastation in Moore, Oklahoma makes it painfully and tragically clear that schools in the region known popularly as "Tornado Alley" need reinforced tornado shelters to protect the students. Sadly, Plaza Towers Elementary School - where seven children perished - did not have a tornado shelter.

Children are our future, and worth protecting. Surely it is worth a little more money to provide shelters where they can escape the devastation of tornadoes. We need to ask that all schools in tornado-prone areas be fitted with proper tornado shelters large enough to hold all students, faculty and staff. One child dying needlessly in a tornado is one too many.

We the undersigned ask that you require reinforced tornado shelters of sufficient size to protect all students, teachers and staff at schools in tornado-prone areas. The tragedy in Moore, Oklahoma makes it painfully clear that a regular basement cannot protect people from a powerful tornado. Children are our future, and deserve all reasonable protection.
