Tie Congressional Pay to Performance

The public should not pay its congressional servants if they produce little of value. Getting the People's work done is essential, but experience has shown that the dynamics of policy making can produce stalemates that put the nation at risk. Congressional pay is not a privilege, it is compensation for work done. In the world of work, pay is for results, not merely activity. Under a pay for performance system the public would identify a limited number of objectives and tie congressional compensation to their attainment. While a procedure to establish objectives and performance measures needs to be worked out, such models exist widely and have proven an incentive for performance. Collaboration, compromise, and getting to yes can be helped immeasurably by tying pay to results
