Urge the NSW Government to Reinstate Funding to the State's Environmental Agencies

The New South Wales Government will cut $20 million from environment agencies in an efficiency drive, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

National Parks and Wildlife and the Royal Botanic Gardens are among the hardest hit.

The cuts come on top of $60 million already stripped over the last three years from the environment department.

The impact of the cuts can already be seen in national parks, where there are now few rangers.

Furthermore, the department has moved to raise fees and charges on access to National Parks.

Moreover, there has been a loss of specialist skills and scientific knowledge as a result of staff cuts. There has been a 30% reduction in the science team alone - all of which will impact on fire and feral animal programs.

The public need National Parks and gardens and services to them should be preserved and protected - especially because of the bush fire threat Australia faces every summer.

Will you join me in urging the NSW Government to reinstate funding to the state's environmental agencies?
