Monday October 15,2018 4 Pitbulls dug into our yard(within minutes) came on to my screened porch and killed our sweet Luna(a 5lb Chorkie).She went out for a quick potty break.My husband heard her yelp and found them attacking her.They were huge and killed her within minutes while he screamed and yelled for help.He grabbed his gun after securing our kids in a room but it was too late,she was killed.My husband is active duty Army and was only home on a 4 day leave.I was at work and he was home with our 2 kids. Cops and animal control were called.Because the animals have only killed once,the owner gets to keep them!Nothing stopping the dogs from entering my yard again and killing another of my pets or my kids.So now we have to stay inside,or go out armed.Does not seem fair.There is a prior history of dog issues at this home.The owner even had to surrender 2 dogs in January 2018 for similar reasons. New laws that went in to effect in Florida October 1st 2018 are the reason more cannot be done this time and the reason he was not forced to surrender them.The owner of the dogs did not care.We have contacted news,and petitioned with neighbors who have also had issues with these same dogs.They have killed before but it was not reported because it was a stray that was killed.We are protesting Saturday for him to surrender the dogs.We have angry and supportive neighbors and friends on our side.It won't bring her back but we have two more small dogs and two small kids.We no longer feel safe in our backyard.We have a 6 foot fence!!We are so broken over this but if we can save another family from this pain,it will be worth the fight.It is important for me to express that this is NOT a petition against any particular breed of dog.I love all dogs.I want stricter laws on vicious/dangerous dogs.I want fines to be significantly larger for menacing dogs roaming.
