Help get a Russian political activist who is on a hunger strike since Dec 14

  • al: Daniel Kashnitsky

We demand an immediate release of Sergey Krivov, a detained Russian activist. He has been arrested in Moscow since Oct. 18 and refusing to take food since Dec 14 demanding freedom and justice.

Sergey, 51, a Russian rights activist. He participated in most public actions of the Russian opposition movement in Moscow in 2011 and 2012 in support of fair elections, against government corruption, and in defense of human rights. Sergey is a resident of Moscow and a father of two children (12 and 9).  He holds a PhD degree

On 6 May 2012, on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s presidential inauguration, Sergei Krivov participated in a public march and rally against election frauds. The rally was endorsed by the municipal and police authorities of Moscow. In spite of that, police sealed off a large part of the square where the rally was planned, causing confusion among arriving participants. Unidentified persons, allegedly provokers, attempted throwing some pieces of asphalt at police and were calling for fight.  Police used force the indiscriminately, mostly against peaceful and law-abiding participants.  Many participants, including Sergey, attempted to defend those persons who were beaten by the police.

On the same day of 6 May 2012 the Investigations Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case. Up to now, more than 20 persons have heard charges under that case. Sergei Krivov became the latest person arrested under this criminal case and was detained on Oct 18 last year. Two policemen who claimed being hit by Sergey did not show up during the court hearing.

On 14 January Moscow City Court declined an appeal on the court decision extending his arrest, and Sergei Krivov decided to continue his hunger strike that had lasted or more than a month which is a severe risk to his health.

Support Sergey Krivov in his legitimate demand for liberty. He is not an offender, and he is prepared to stand a fair court trial in order to prove the false accusations against him are groundless. Help him get back home to his family!
