Congress - Amend Animal Welfare Act to Include Mice & Rats

Mice and rats are animals that do not deserve to be stabbed, probed and mutilated; yet it happens quite often.  These less than popular creatures are often used in schools for animal testing, science and learning such as that at the Harvard Medical School (HMS).  You can read more on this issue of using mice and rats at http://www.peta.org/blog/harvard-laboratory-caught-tormenting-and-decapitating-animals/?utm_campaign=050616%20PETA%20E-News&utm_source=PETA%20E-Mail&utm_medium=E-News

It is a major concern that although animals are included and protected under the Animal Welfare Act, mice and rats currently are not and frequently used and abused.  No animal should endure injections with caustic materials, being killed, mutilated and decapitated.  Then get stored in plastic bags in the freezer.

The effort in this petition is to encourage Congress to amend the Animal Welfare Act to include mice and rats.  Although these animals make up about 95 percent of the animals abused in experiments and are specifically excluded from the AWA, which is the only federal law with legally enforceable standards that governs the treatment of animals in laboratories. You can help with these effort by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.

U. S. Congress – Although these animals make up about 95 percent of the animals abused in experiments and are specifically excluded from the AWA, which is the only federal law with legally enforceable standards that governs the treatment of animals in laboratories. I strongly urge you to amend the Animal Welfare Act so that it also includes mice and rats.  They too deserve to be protected from intentional cruelty and abuse.
