Save the Flowery oak tree

In June of 2016 Flowery School will receive a parking lot overhaul funded by Measure H tax dollars. The current approved plans call for the removal of a large mature oak tree in the upper Flowery parking lot along Highway 12. We the undersigned are asking that the tree be saved and that the parking lot plans be amended to allow for the survival of this tree.
Why one tree? How can that make a difference? Since 2014 the Springs area of Sonoma has seen a vast amount of native oak, bay and buck eye trees removed for various construction projects. Some of these removals could not be avoided. The result is an area that has experienced a loss of trees that clean our air, cool our climate and create a beautiful environment.
By saving this tree for the community we are setting an example for the children of Flowery and the Springs. Mature trees such as this oak are irreplaceable in our lifetime. Caring for our community, environment and quality of life are values that we can model for our students and children.
