Support Research to Stop Ocean Pollution

Scientists have identified more than 690 species of marine wildlife that have been affected by marine debris. There's no doubt about it: ocean pollution is a big problem. An estimated eight million metric tons of plastic waste flow from land into the ocean every year, meaning that by 2025 there could be one ton of plastic for every three tons of fish!

The U.S. Senate recently introduced bipartisan legislation to help solve this problem, the Saving Our Seas Act. This legislation will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's research to better understand the impacts of this growing threat and identify solutions to stop the flow of plastic waste into our ocean, including reducing and better managing solid municipal waste.

Take action today by telling your Senators to support this important piece of legislation.
Dear [Your Representative],

As your constituent and an ocean advocate, I urge you to support the Saving Our Seas Act, S. 756, when it comes to the floor for a vote. This bipartisan legislation was introduced by Sen. Sullivan (R- AK), Sen. Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Whitehouse (D-RI) and Sen. Booker (D-NJ).

This key funding commitment from Congress is critically important for our ocean. Every year, more than 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enters our ocean. Scientists have identified more than 690 species of marine wildlife that have been affected by marine debris. This legislation will support NOAA's research to better understand the impacts of this growing threat and identify solutions to stop the flow of plastic waste into our ocean, including reducing and better managing solid municipal waste.

Please, support the Saving Our Seas Act, S. 756, when it comes to the floor for a vote. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
