Tell your representatives: Maryland needs more solar power!

Maryland's current Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) law requires only 25% of our electricity to come from renewable sources by 2020. Only a measly 2.5% is required from solar. We deserve better.

In the 2018 legislative session, Solar United Neighbors banded together with other solar and clean energy advocates to support the historic Clean Energy Jobs Act, which would have increased clean energy production in Maryland to 50% by 2030, including a six-time increase in the solar power.

Raising the state's RPS will increase employment while supporting one of the most vibrant sectors in our economy and the fastest growing occupation in the nation. It will lower the costs for homeowners and businesses to go solar, and increase equity and fairness in the solar market for all Marylanders by helping to expand community solar.

The 2018 legislative session has adjourned without the bill passing, but we're not giving up. There's simply too much at stake to walk away from this fight - and too many positives that we can continue to build on. To ensure that the pro-solar bill advances in 2019, Maryland solar advocates must tell our representatives that we need more affordable, home-grown solar and other forms of renewable energy.

Send a message to your representatives today: Maryland needs more solar power.

Dear [elected official],

I am writing to voice my strong support for expanding Maryland's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). Although this year's bill didn't move forward, I am counting on you to support it when it comes before the legislature next session.

Raising the state's RPS and requiring more solar will expand solar use and employment across the state, supporting one of the most vibrant sectors in our economy and the fastest growing occupation in the nation. It will boost Maryland's Solar Renewable Energy Credit program, which lowers the costs for homeowners and businesses to go solar. And, it will increase equity and fairness in the solar market for all Marylanders by helping to expand community solar, extending the benefits of solar to community members currently unable to enjoy them.
