Require Higher Inspection Standards On California Egg Farms!

  • al: Animal Place

In February 2012, Andy Cheung, an egg broker, abandoned 50,000 hens on his Turlock, California egg farm, leaving the animals without food or clean water for more than two weeks. When officials finally discovered the farm, 17,000 hens had starved to death. State officials then began gassing the remaining live birds. Fortunately Animal Place and other local sanctuaries rescued 4,460 hens. This incident is just one additional reminder that it is extremely important to create better monitoring of farms.

Currently there are only very few inspectors in the state of California for a large number of farms. This is simply not enough to ensure that animals are provided the level of care they need. Monitoring and inspection must improve to prevent future tragedies!

Please sign the petition today to urge decision makers to create a higher standard for monitoring and inspection at egg-laying farms.
Dear [decision maker],

As someone who cares deeply about animals, I am writing to urge you to create a higher standard for monitoring and inspection at egg-laying farms. Currently there are very few inspectors in the state of California for the high amount of farms -- which is unacceptable!
