Petition to Al Gore to Serve As Democratic Candidate for President in 2008

We, the undersigned, hereby petition Al Gore, the former Vice President of the United States, to consider running on the Democratic ticket as President in 2008.

We believe that only Al Gore of all of the candidates we have seen has emerged as as the only serious democractic politician who had demonstrated a  clear understanding and a vision of what democracy entails as we face a government that has demonstrated a consistent  lack of respect for democratic core values,  a willingness to jetison democratic values for selfish interest, and in the process has and continues to violate the laws of the land in complete contradiction of the spirit of the Constitution. 

 
Moreover, Al Gore  has rightly pinpointed the fact that the corrective measures envisioned by our founding fathers have failed to provide protection for the citizenry of this great land because of the Executive Branch’s  expansion of its powers so as to neutralize both Congress and the Supreme Court.  In effect, and with great clarity, Mr. Gore has indicated that the violations of the rules of law has set us on a collision course with our democratic core ideals resulting in an incipient form of autocracy or monarchal form of government or some combination thereof not envisioned by the founding fathers.   
He has correctly observed that today, we face a challenge in which one branch of government has acquired immense and unnatural power to govern as it sees fit without investigation, without questioning by the other branches of government.

Such action has transformed our government from democratic to tyranny in a few short years.
In the absence of checks and balances, it falls upon us, the people, to serve as the ultimate corrective mechanism of government, to demand that our government live up to the rule of Constitutional law in the practice of government.

Towards that end, Al Gore has asked for the support of the people if the government will not take the responsibility for policing its own failings, to conduct an investigation into the abuses that are now taking place--from government snooping on private citizens, the denial of rights to American citizens only suspected of terrorist activities or involvement, torture that goes unreported, and other instances of government abuse that are deemed unfamiliar to our society or the rules of law.

We, hereby, underwrite our support for Al Gore’s ideas and support his mission to  return us to the rule of law and respect for the type of democratic government that we believe as American citizens we are entitled to defend; furthermore, we hereby endorse Al Gore as our candidate for president in the coming presidential elections.
