Help Animals Suffering On Factory Farms. Improve the USDA Nutrition Guidelines Now!

You're likely wondering what the Nutrition Guidelines has to do with animal protection. The short answer is an awful lot. The foods we eat not only impact our health, but also the wellbeing of animals.

The majority of animals killed for food in the United States are raised on cruel factory farms where they're treated as mere machines. Factory farming evolved as a means to satisfy an increasing demand for meat. However, if the Nutrition Guidelines calls for an increase in plant-based proteins, the United States — which has one of the highest rates of meat consumption in the world — can reduce its meat consumption and phase out factory farming.

Cows, pigs, and chickens raised for food are among the most abused animals in the world.

Will you urge USDA Secretary Perdue to reduce the amount of recommended animal-based proteins in the Nutrition Guidelines?
Dear Secretary Perdue,

The 2020 Dietary Guidelines has the opportunity to address how the foods we eat not only impact our health but also animals and the planet. Back in 2015, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee found that the average US diet is contributing to climate change, mostly as it pertains to intensive animal agriculture and meat production.

However, eating more plant-based proteins, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, can help us protect animals, public health and our planet for generations to come.

[Your Comment]

As someone who cares about my health, the health of animals, and the health of our planet, I strongly urge the USDA to consider current scientific evidence surrounding plant-based foods and publish guidelines that incorporate a reduction in animal-based proteins. Sincerely,

Thank you, [Your Name]
