Keep Walmart out of Eureka Springs

Walmart has a reputation for draining the economy of small towns because these towns are often too small to support duplicated goods and services. Eureka Springs is already filled with empty storefronts from previous business' attempts to duplicate service, a Walmart would practically convert Eureka into a ghost town. The entire economy of Eureka Springs is reliant on tourism and without a unique shopping district or community attractions then tourism dies along with many jobs. To top it all off, we already have a Walmart less than 12 miles away which solely discredits the need for a Walmart Express anyway.

It is a well known fact that Walmart sends a majority of its revenue out of local communities; alternatively, local businesses tend to keep more consumer dollars in the local economy. It is a less-known fact that Walmart is responsible for passing on significant costs to the communities where it operates because a majority of the company’s Associates (and families) participate in publicly-funded health care/ public assistance programs. Walmart has created a new kind of economic plague by leaving vacant and abandoned stores throughout the country.
