Urge Germany to Block the Import of Tusks from Nkombo - the Giant Elephant Shot by a German Hunter

Germany will consider blocking the import of the tusks of one of Africa’s biggest elephants, killed in Zimbabwe by one of its citizens, according to a report in The Telegraph.

Germany's nature conservation agency said it had refused entry for animals killed in trophy hunts in the past and would not hesitate to do so in this case if the hunt had infringed German wildlife regulations.

Tragically, the elephant had arrived unexpectedly one morning towards the end of the German’s trip. He did not hesitate to kill it.

Germany should block the import on both moral and conservation grounds. In April 2014, the USA banned the import of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Tanzania because of concerns about the steep decline in their numbers.

The situation for the elephants of Africa is dire. In the last ten years, elephant numbers have dropped by 62%. There are fewer than 500,000 African elephants left and conservationists have warned they could be extinct by the end of the decade.

Will you join me in urging Germany to block the import of tusks from Nkombo - the giant elephant shot by hunter in Zimbabwe? It's time to send a message to hunters - enough is enough!
