Urge Canada to Help Bring Back Our Girls!

On April 14, 2014 hundreds of girls in Chibok, Nigeria were abducted from their boarding school before writing their final exams. Many of these girls, aged 16 to 19, had dreams of becoming lawyers, nurses and doctors – hoping to use their education to give back to their community.

Sadly, this is an extreme case of a larger global issue. In addition to the Nigerian schoolgirls, globally, between 500 million and 1.5 billion children experience violence every year, many within school walls. And yet education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. No child should be denied an education. Every child, including every girl without exception, has the right to learn without fear.

The Canadian government has offered to deploy special forces personnel, as well as equipment and technical expertise to support the Nigerian government in locating the girls.

Take action today to keep talking and keep focus on this situation and to encourage the Canadian government to continue to lend their support until every girl is found and reunited with her family.
To Minister Harper:

We call upon the Government of Canada to continue to support efforts to ensure the immediate release of the abducted Nigerian girls, and to work to sustain global political attention to this crisis until every last girl is found.

We also call upon the Government of Canada to increase its investments in safe, quality education for all children, in order to see that schools everywhere are free from violence and intimidation.
