Iceland Must Reverse Whale Hunt Decision

The International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling in 1996, but Iceland just announced that they are defying this environmentally protective ban. Iceland will allow 40 minke whales and unlimited endangered fin whales to be hunted this year.

As global warming threatens more and more whales, it is even more critical to stop the whale hunt. Urge Iceland's Minister of Fisheries to revoke the hunting permission today!

Dear Minister Guofinnsson,

I was disappointed to learn that you have chosen to allow whale hunting this year, defying the international ban. I urge you to reverse this decision immediately.

Global warming is already becoming a dramatic threat to the survival of the minke and other whale species. Iceland's decision to allow whale hunting only decreases their chances of survival.

As you know, Iceland had developed a reputation as a whale-watching tourist destination. As an ecologically minded traveler, however, I will not choose to visit a country that allows such environmentally destructive practices. I urge you to reconsider the economic impact of your decision because of the loss of tourists like me that are drawn to Iceland for its famous natural beauty.

Please stop the whale hunt immediately before the irreparable damage is any greater.
