Tell Santorum: Being Liberal is not "Abandoning Christendom"
Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum wears his religion on his sleeve, but his recent attacks on President Obama's religion -- and the faith of people on the left -- go way out of line and alienate many religious people.
According to the former senator, being liberal is equivalent to "abandoning Christendom," implying that there is no such thing as a liberal Christian.
Being Christian does not necessarily mean that you are a Republican--and being liberal does not mean that you are non-religious or subscribe to a "phony ideology," as Santorum has asserted.
Tell Rick Santorum that political affiliation and religious beliefs can (and must) be viewed as separate entities!
Dear Senator Rick Santorum:
I am writing in regards to your claim that being liberal is equivalent to "abandoning Christemdom," in which you implied that there is no such thing as a liberal Christian.

Being Christian does not necessarily mean that you are a Republican--and being liberal does not necessarily mean that you are non-religious or subscribe to a "phony ideology." By asserting these claims, you are also single-handedly alienating non-Christian Republicans as well as putting down many devoted Christian liberals. Many American citizens will tell you that it is indeed possible for one's political party to be separate from religious ideology.
The freedom of religion, one of the many great freedoms that the United States offers, allows for political affiliation and religious beliefs to not be mutually exclusive. I would like to remind you that the founding fathers made church and state intentionally separate when constructing the foundations of the United States. They were escaping religious persecution in England and wanted to create a country that is inclusive and free from the same oppression.
I urge you to renounce your statements regarding liberal association and Christianity being mutually exclusive and to cease your efforts in making the 2012 about religion.
