Stop the Construction of Dirty Coal Plants

Coal production is a leading cause of smog, acid rain, and harmful air toxics. Coal-fired power plants release over 40% of total U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, making them the biggest contributor to human-made causes of global warming.

Yet there are current plans for building nearly 100 new coal-fired power plants across America.

Fortunately, U.S. Representatives Henry Waxman of California and Edward Markey of Massachusetts introduced a bill that would halt new coal-fired power plant construction until they have the capacity to capture 85% of the carbon emitted.

Tell your Congress representative to co-sponsor the Moratorium on Uncontrolled Power Plants Act. When the new Congress comes in, make sure this crucial bill is passed!

Dear Congressperson,

Coal-fired power plants are responsible for over 40% of our nation's carbon dioxide emissions. They are the largest contributor of hazardous air toxics, including mercury pollution.

Currently, there are plans for nearly 100 new coal-fired plants across America. We do not want these plants to be constructed unless they have the capacity to capture 85% of the carbon emitted.

Please represent us in Congress and co-sponsor the Moratorium on Uncontrolled Power Plants Act. We want the United States to be a leader in halting global warming.

Thank you for your time.
