Help save Scott Reef from Woodside’s gas plans

Off Western Australia's Kimberley coast lies Scott Reef, one of Australia's most important and biodiverse coral reefs.

It supports more than a thousand species, including reef-building corals and fish, green turtles and sea snakes, and migratory whales, including the endangered pygmy blue whale.

Fossil fuel giant Woodside wants to drill up to 50 gas wells around Australia's magnificent Scott Reef.

Not only is this completely unacceptable, posing major risks to marine wildlife, but it will also be a major contributor to Woodside's proposed Burrup Hub project, a climate disaster that will produce over six billion tonnes of emissions.

Standing up for Scott Reef and our climate has never been more important.

The future of Scott Reef is in the hands of Federal Environment Minister, Murray Watt, and WA Environment Minister, Matthew Swinbourn.

They will decide whether one of Australia's riskiest oil and gas projects goes ahead.

Add your name to email the Federal and WA Ministers, calling for them to reject Woodside's plans.

Dear Minister Watt and Minister Swinbourn,

I am writing to you regarding Woodside's plan to drill for gas at the highly biodiverse Scott Reef, off the coast of Western Australia.

I am very concerned about the serious impacts that Woodside's plans would have on Australia's marine wildlife, particularly, green sea turtles and pygmy blue whales, which are listed as 'vulnerable' and 'endangered' under the EPBC Act.

I am also deeply concerned about the billions of tonnes of climate pollution that this and other projects in Woodside's Burrup Hub project would produce, perpetuating Australia's fossil fuel economy for decades and worsening climate change.

I urge you to reject the Browse offshore gas field development, and safeguard the future of the precious and threatened marine life at and around Scott Reef.

This is a critical decision for your government and an opportunity to show its commitment to urgent action on climate and on protecting our diverse and unique marine life.
