What's at stake in next year's census? Equal representation in government, funding for public schools, money for anti-hunger programs, properly equipped fire and police departments, critical infrastructure repairs, and the list goes on.
But it's not just underrepresentation that's at stake this time. Years of underfunding, a climate of fear exacerbated by this administration's actions and rhetoric, a transition to the first "high tech" census, and the potential last-minute addition of an untested citizenship question threaten to derail next year's count. The census only happens once every ten years. We have to get it right.
Plus, the census is even more critical for communities of color, low-income families, and immigrant and rural communities. Without a proper count, vulnerable communities will get left behind.
Take action today: Pledge to be counted in the 2020 Census.
