The recently made public proposed legislation to prevent those Australians who happen to prefer same sex relationships from enjoying the same marital rights and familial rights as those who are heterosexual worries us.
What worries us more is that the Labour party seems to be content to let it pass through unchallenged.
The Labour party has the ability to stall this legislation in the senate and prevent it from being made law. This is still breaking news so something can be done.
The Labour party seems to assume that after the Liberals have made their attitude towards gay men and lesbians clear, they have no need to consider our interests because we will vote Labour anyway, so their best strategy is to be as homophobic as the Liberal party. The other parties should also not be complacent about this. We, the public, elect you to represent US.
We are taught that the people of Australia have the right to be anything they choose, that there will be no discrimination tolerated on any grounds. Our sporting heroes are fined heavily for any discriminatory comments they make – on and off the field, why should there be legislation passed that would make it RIGHT for discrimination to happen?
The proposed legislation is highly discriminatory. It supposes that homosexuals are not good enough to be parents. It supposes that they do not want to be able to marry their life partners. It supposes that only the relationship between a man and a woman can last “Until Death do us part”. It is narrow minded and wrong
