Ban Dog Chaining in Surry County NC

This is a petition to ban the chaining of dogs in Surry County. Keeping a dog chained or penned permanently outdoors causes extreme psychological suffering, contributes to muscle atrophy and aggression, and forces dogs to live miserable, lonely lives in solitary confinement, the worst form of torture for a social creature. Many chained dogs receive no medical attention, enjoy no interaction with humans, and endure extreme weather conditions with inadequate shelter. Some starve or spend long days wound up around obstacles out of reach of food and water; and most die all alone without anyone to love them.

Please support this ban in order that we can make our community safer for children and more humane to man's best friend.

Kathleen Edwards of Shepherds of Surry (S.O.S!) has proposed revisions to the county Animal Control and Animal Welfare Ordinance.
