Exempt the Val Air from any and all sound ordinances.
The Val Air Ballroom is a historical landmark for many in and around the West Des Moines community. On several occasions, the Val Air has been threatened into closing. We, the Friends of the Val Air Ballroom, fight to preserve its existence and maintain the value it brings into our community each and every day. The current WDM sound ordinance (which was re-created largely for the Val Air) and efforts of some (mostly outside of WDM) place undue hardship on the entertainment venue that could ultimately threaten the ballroom once again. We will voice our concern until the Val Air Ballroom is found exempt of any and all sound ordinances, and is allowed to conduct their business suitable to industry norms. Thus, maintaining a continuation of entertainment opportunities for future generations as it has done for the last 70 plus years.

Fact: Only 3 WDM residents complained of noise in the last year against the Val Air. The majority stemmed from Des Moines residents who live substantially further away than WDM residents who have NEVER complained.
Fact: The Val Air has sold over 4100 tickets this year to out-of-state concert goers. That's a lot of out-of-state revenue in food, gas and lodging!
Fact: The Val Air has been providing live entertainment for over 70 years.
