George Washington's Farewell Speech

In George Washington's 1796 Farewell Address, written over 200 years ago, he states the importance of religious obligations and the countries morality. He states that a nations morality cannot be cannot be maintained without religions. In his address he states "Where is the security for reputation, for life, it the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths, which are the instruments of investigations in courts of justice?" He is trying to say that our nation needs religion. It is considered our security blanket, because without it, we are empty. In the 21st century, this advice is still followed, but not to the standard that George Washington had hoped for. The government today is focused less on religion and more on what is best for the people, economy wise. Many people although, still practice it because that is how they were raised. Religion had played a very big part in shaping todays country.
George Washinton's advice should be followed as it once was. If our country had the same standards as it did while Washingtin was president, then the way the country is run would be much smoother. There would be conflicts that are sovable, unlike today. George Washington's Farewell Address should still be practiced today.
