Headgear Rule Clarification
Rule clarification/simplification to notify riders that they may wear tailcoats when wearing protective headgear.
We the undersigned request a clarification and simplification to USEF's stance on protected headgear and tailcoats at the FEI Levels.
USEF Rule DR120.2 does not allow for the wearing of tailcoats when riding with protective headgear above Fourth Level. USEF Rule DR120.5 allows for tailcoats with protective headgear in direct contradiction to DR120.2.
This confusion has led to riders being chastised by judges for pairing helmets and tailcoats and other riders going out of their way to seek permission to do so. As the "Dress" section (DR120) is written, it does not clearly define the allowable dress in FEI classes.
We ask this clarification to enlighten competitors and judges and encourage the use of protective headgear at the FEI levels.
Thank you very much.
