Lifetime Healthcare for 9/11 Rescue Workers
Let's forget about the healthcare debate going on in Congress for just a moment and think about the Sept 11th rescue workers. These brave people (whether they were paid NYC employees or volunteers) should have guaranteed healthcare FOR LIFE! These workers (though most were not being paid) worked round the clock for WEEKS in a VERY HARSH environment that was certainly not fit for humans and have subsequently endured many ongoing health problems. The reality is that many of the volunteers did not get any help from the systems put in place to help the NYC employed rescue workers and their lives are screwed up now because of it. These people should never have to worry about paying medical bills and should not have to worry about being denied coverage for these pre-existing problems. I do not care what your thoughts on health care reform are, this is a separate issue that needs to be addressed! Please use this petition to write your Congressman and tell them you want to see these heroes taken care of!

In the aftermath of the tragic September 11th attacks hundreds of rescue workers worked round the clock in absolutely brutal conditions to save lives and recover the fallen. Because of the conditions they experience lifetime health issues, pain, and mental issues.
Many of those workers were volunteers and were not eligible for help from the funds setup to help rescue workers. These volunteers are suffering terrible health problems and health related financial hardship. Many are unable to work and cannot afford to pay for medical treatments and medications. Many of these workers do not have health insurance and may be ineligible to get insurance due to their pre-existing conditions caused by the heroic rescue efforts.
We ask that you consider enacting a program that will give these workers lifetime health care regardless of whether they were New York City employees or volunteers. These brave people should never have to worry about going without health care or being denied coverage. We owe it to them and to the memories of the fallen.
Please do not let them down. Please give them the help they need to perservere and get past the problems plauging them.
